One fine day, I was walking by the Singapore River and I saw a few turtles gathered around a catfish. In an ideal world, they would all sit down, hold a meeting and equitably share the catch of the day. As you can probably guess… that is not what happened. Instead, the turtles were all fighting over the fish that was already dead. This is the way of Nature. Survival of the fittest.

The truth, however, is that there are plenty of other fish in the sea.

Have you allowed this scenario to happen in your life? Have you fought over that which has already died? You cannot, under any and all circumstances, allow this to happen to you. All we can do is pray that there are more fish in the sea.

The catfish is called a catfish because it has whiskers. Its unique appearance makes it easy to identify even when the fish is among a multitude of other fish. The catfish effortlessly stands out from the crowd and cannot fit in even if it tried its hardest. Simply by looking at it, I knew that it was a catfish and not some other fish.

In some places in Africa, the catfish is associated with the magical properties of water. If you think about it, water is truly magical, even from the scientific perspective. Water is the source of all life. Earth is the only planet where water is known to exist. And the catfish, by choosing to be close to the mud, is associated with both the earth and water elements.

For hundreds of years, the catfish has been caught and farmed for food. Some say that it is delicious while others say that the catfish is watery and lacks flavour. When the catfish appears in your life, it is advising you to make a judgment call based on your preferences. To do this, we need to know what we like and what we do not.

The important thing here is to rise above the disappointments you have personally experienced. Channel your focus on being a part of the new future that has not yet been created. To do this, we have to focus on developing a new identity that was not there prior to our arrival on the scene.

While it is undoubtedly important to learn from those who have been there before you, the catfish is asking you to grow in stature so that you can thrive in a new environment. You are headed for great things in life despite the disappointments you have faced.

If you have ever met a person that you found hard to get to know, the catfish is encouraging you to embrace the mystery and the intrigue of the encounter. People who seem sweet-natured on the outside usually have, within themselves, a secret world. Men and women with this enigmatic quality have a magnetic appeal that is difficult to resist.

The right person will feel naturally drawn to this rather special individual.
