The Solitary Path Between Potential and Presence

When I sat down to write Oneness, I kept returning to the subtle, painful truth of how we love—and how, so often, we fail to love fully and truthfully.

At its heart, Oneness is a book about relationships—specifically the ones that leave us feeling the most alone. It is about those silent spaces between two people where physical and tangible presence is offered, yet intimacy is fundamentally refused. We enter relationships seeking warmth, connection, and understanding, only to find ourselves standing beside someone who loves the idea of us, but repeatedly recoils from the reality of who we are.

There is a line in the book that reads:

“To desire the grape is to forsake the wine.”

They want the potential. They want the freshness, the unburdened innocence, the sweetness of something untouched by time or trial. They desire the grape.

But love in its true, deep form is not a grape. Love is the wine.

Wine requires crush, fermentation, patience, and time. It carries depth, complexity, and a bittersweet richness that only comes from enduring change. To love the wine is to honour the history, the scars, the maturity, and the sacred unfolding of a soul.

In Oneness, this line pays homage to a specific kind of woman—one who gives generously of her depth, only to be unappreciated by partners who desire the immediate sweetness of the grape and forsake the quiet, sacred complexity of the wine. It speaks to the heartache of being seen only for what you can offer in your simplest form, while the full measure of your spirit goes unnoticed and uncherished.

When someone desires only the grape, they ask you to remain unformed, simple, and easily consumable. In doing so, they miss the entire point of communion. They forsake the very richness they claimed to seek.

If you have ever loved deeply while feeling unheard and unseen, Oneness was written for you. It is a reminder that your depth is not a burden, and your maturity is not something to be simplified. You are the wine—rich, sacred, and fully deserving of a love that knows how to savour every drop.
