When the Ace of Cups appears, it usually represents that we have a job or a business that does not offer us the fulfilment that we are looking for. We are unhappy with the career that we have chosen and the work that once inspired us no longer does. Perhaps the job was once enjoyable, but after a long period of working at it, it now brings you both unhappiness and boredom.
Perhaps there are, indeed, greener pastures out there and you just haven’t found them. You have gotten tired and drained at your job and this is why you have become so unhappy. You must take the steps necessary to find the resources to continue to nurture your inner talents and abilities.
Oddly enough, I’ve found this card tends to pop up when we’ve been doing something for a while and we’ve gotten stuck in a bit of a rut. To change things up, we need to be willing to embrace a new and unexpected opportunity. Embrace a new project that you never thought you would ever embrace. Seize the new opportunity that allows you to express yourself.

But as you journey further down, you may find that some elements of ‘the new journey’ that you are on may trouble or unsettle you. That, however, is no reason to give up. If you keep journeying, you will undoubtedly find something even better than what you found the last time around. Perhaps the timing was not right and due to that you faced more obstructions and obstacles than was necessary. And perhaps–and this is more likely–the situation on the ground was a volatile one and you, due to circumstances, walked into a situation that ended up doing more harm than good.
If this sounds like what you’ve been through, do consider continuing on your journey till you arrive at an option that is more suited to you. Remember: first and foremost, the Ace of Cups represents a new opportunity, usually something completely unlike anything you’ve ever done in your life. But since it is a Minor Arcana card, it represents a small new beginning, a small opening and a small window of opportunity. The word ‘small’ is imperative for this opportunity will, most likely, not come into your life in a big way. It will sneak in in an unexpected way, but when it does, you will be extremely glad for it.
Not only should you embrace the new opportunity that is coming your way, you should be prepared for it to come to you in a truly unexpected way. At the same time, however, be warned for there is much here that you still do not know and understand. If at any stage, you feel that you’re walking on a road you don’t want to be on, you can always walk away (see 8 of Cups). Do not feel obligated to stay if you feel that this is not the best long-run decision for you.
Some opportunities only come into our life for a reason and a season…
