The relationship between the peacock and humanity is very old. Flamboyant, eye-catching and tremendously rich in colour, the peacock as a vahana vehicle is common to Goddess Saraswati and Lord Kartik Swami.

The large train that the peacock is famous for is used in mating rituals and courtship displays. It is arched into a magnificent fan that reaches across the bird’s back. Peahens are said to select their significant other according to the size, colour and quality of these lavish and beautiful feather trains. In line with that, the peacock is associated with the Divine Masculine.
During the courtship phase, the cock elevates his tail, which lies under the train. This elevates the train and brings it forward. At the climax of this display, the tail feathers are vibrated, giving the feathers of the train a shimmering appearance as it makes a rustling sound. As an ornamental bird, the peacock has long been famous for its beauty. Nevertheless, some species of peacocks must be kept apart from other fowl due to their aggressive disposition.
Each peacock feather is tipped with an iridescent eyespot that is ringed with blue and bronze. The symbolism of the peacock feature has an association with protection as a preventative measure. Peacock feathers are very often likened to eyes. There is a sense that one is being watched over and needs to be protected. Even when there are a lot of eyes on a particular individual, it is a reminder not to be fixated on appearances alone. You will not get the full picture simply by what you see.
When a peacock crosses your path, it is generally considered a good omen for those seeking a life partner. It heralds a period of luck, success and a career that truly satisfies you. You are about to embark on a lucky change on your path.
