No Number Is Ever Arbitrary

Let’s begin with an arbitrary number.

26.

Tell me, where is the first place your mind goes?

Date, age, year? These numbers relate to time.

A house number, a street number, a country code? These numbers relate to space; or should I say, a place.

A return on capital, an increase in revenue, a year-on-year average floating rate? These numbers relate to the state of our finances.

But just telling you, number 26, however, is meaningless. Much like words, numbers have to be viewed in context.

Tell me, what does the number 26 mean to you?
