When the eel appears, prepare to shed–once and for all–the shameful burdens of your past. Sometimes, we are carrying around a terrible secret and what we need, more than anything else, is to let go of the limiting beliefs and the emotional baggage that is hindering our growth.

When the eel appears, it reminds you that the need for closure is sometimes what keeps us from moving forward in our lives in the way that we are meant to. This closure may pertain to a relationship that has run its course, a career path that no longer aligns with your values or a negative self-image that holds you back from being all that you can be.

Embrace the process of closure, for it is not about forgetting or even burying the hatchet of the past, but rather, about acknowledging its painful lessons and paving the way for a brighter future.

It is about making peace with the past and moving on definitively.

The Surprise

When the eel appears, you may be in for a surprise or a shock of some sort that you simply did not see coming. It may come as a pleasant surprise or it may catch you completely off guard. In many situations, however, it is exactly what one needs to get them moving in a whole new direction.

Since the eel lives in the water, it reminds us that sometimes all we need to do is heal our wounds (see Stingray) before we definitively move onto something new. The eel reminds us to let go of what no longer serves us. We need to do this in order to make space for much-needed growth and positive change.

When the eel appears in our psyche, it reminds us that it is to up us to create a void. It is up to us to create room in our lives for something or someone new to come in.

Closure, while sometimes challenging, is not an ending. When we choose to end something, we never know what we’re going to get next. Are we open to what is trying to come into our lives or are we going to stick to our comfort zones even though it has not provided us with what we’re seeking?

By embracing the wisdom of the eel, you gain the strength to release what you have outgrown. By allowing yourself to let go, you are ready to embrace the exciting possibilities that lie ahead. The message of the eel spirit animal is ultimately one of renewal and new beginnings after a much-needed ending.
