The Courage to Move On

The time has come to move on. The time has come to make the more difficult choice: to move on. The time has come to forge an entirely new path.

Truth be told, that’s what you’ve been doing even without consciously realising. You’ve made this decision because you’ve realised that no matter what you do or not do, things are just not working.

This time–unlike in the past–you’ve put in the care, the energy, the effort and you’ve even worked hard; but the time has come to completely stop trying. It just isn’t working.

In a way, it is a breakup. You can even call it a breakdown. This deep letting go of ties that have bound us together because things have changed and have just not worked out.

This act of letting go is the ultimate act of self-respect. It is when we realise that we must love ourselves enough to set ourselves free from the people that hold us back, that put us down, that have deeply hurt us and that have allowed others to hurt us.

We have mended as much as we can, but the time has come to move on with life. Sometimes that even means a physical departure.

It is time to let go completely and fully; and not half-heartedly. The time has come for you to accept what is just not working in your life, especially those things in which you’ve invested a lot of your time, your energy and your resources.

Give yourself permission to truly let go.

Try, if you can, to do this with utmost love and respect. Honour what everyone around you has invested into the situation and try and keep some fond memories alive. Take the good things with you for they are a part of you and cannot be erased, no matter how hard you try.

Forgive others for the terrible blunders they’ve made. If you feel this necessitates a ritual of some kind, then permit yourself to take a short pilgrimage before you officially move on and away. Choose a ceremony that works for you and that will enable you to make the final departure from a life that does not sustain you, does not nurture you and only seems to hurt and harm you.

This is not goodbye. Not really, anyway. It is the mental, physical and emotional distance that is required so that one can focus on the future and what lies ahead. It is time to take those baby steps to redeem the future that awaits you.

Travel light and leave what you no longer need behind.
