Astrology has always been a mystery to mankind and while some try to explain (and sometimes deny) it with the concept of science, some use it to read their characters to predict the future, and some even try to fool people with its unethical use. And then there are many others like author Dipa Sanatani who tries to explore the vast subject of astrology through the realm of human experience.
Many readers won’t even leave a rating, let alone take the time to write a review. And who can blame them? I’ve read a few hundred books and although I do leave ratings, I rarely write reviews. If you contact book review bloggers, they’ve usually got a queue of requests to get through before they can get to your book. So how do you build the momentum for your self-published book as quickly as possible?
Samsara, karma and moksha are three concepts that make up some of the main tenets of Hinduism. Samsara is the belief that all living beings are bound to the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. The temporary body – which is born and must die – is the vehicle for the eternal soul. Humans – and other living beings – will continue to participate in this cycle of death and rebirth till moksha or liberation from the cycle of life and death. Moksha is seen by many as the ultimate spiritual goal in Hinduism. As to how one can reach moksha liberation – there are disagreements, even amongst Hindus (and Buddhists) as to how to reach this goal.
How many women are encouraged to be the Queen of Wands? When we decide to be independent – marry late (if ever), make our own money, and go after what (and who) we want in a straightforward manner; people of both genders label us as aggressive and call us all kinds of nasty names. Both men and women seem to have a vested interest in forever dousing the fire in our hearts with water.
Most of us are actually seeking the meditative state. Have you ever been so utterly, completely involved in something that brought you great joy or a profound peace and when it was over, all your problems and pain shrank to manageable proportions? Maybe you feel it in a nice bubble bath or massage or while playing with children. That, in a nutshell, is what meditation does to you but without the extra props of scented water or a spa, or chocolate ice-cream.
Growing up, I noticed that boys tend to be more outspoken and loud in classes. This gender difference gets more prominent as people get older. As an adult, I have met a huge variety of women. I’ve also met a lot of women who are dissatisfied with their lives. Usually the reason for that is that they haven’t gone for what they wanted or have just settled with what society expects of them.
Vegetarianism is common in my culture. Although ayurveda (Indian traditional medicine) doesn’t insist on vegetarianism, it does recommend it. The concept of ahimsa – nonviolence towards other living beings – is a core tenant of Hindu and Buddhist thought. Vegetarian food is also easier to digest and vital to colon health.
