Two of Cups in a Career Reading | Mutually Beneficial Relationships

The Two of Cups is a card that I often find pops up in a career readings. It signifies the pre-existence of a harmonious and mutually beneficial partnership that is short-term in nature. This is not a card about making a long-term commitment to be together forever. In fact, that is definitely not something that you should do when this card shows up.

This card indicates that when it comes to one’s career, one should be seeking short-term collaborations and partnerships. It could be for a few weeks, a few months or even a few years… but this card definitely does not bode well for those who are seeking a relationship that will last into the decades. This is just not one of those cards.

But before we can have a mutually beneficial short-term relationship, we have to understand what a mutually beneficial relationship actually is.

First of all, is there a strong need for cooperation and mutual support? If there isn’t, it is pointless to even bother getting into a relationship. You may well be better off working alone. Getting into a relationship, even a short-term one–when you’re truly better off working alone–may end up creating more problems than opportunities for you in the long-run.

So begin by asking yourself: do I really need or want this relationship? Once you’ve ascertained that this relationship is a necessary one, you can move on to actually deciding whether this is a relationship that will be beneficial for you or not.

Is there the potential for a good working relationship between the two parties in question? Are they ‘equals’ or is there a hierarchy at play? Very often, our relationships don’t work out because our priorities and our values are simply not the same. One person may value independence while another person may value partnership. One person may value freedom while another person may value commitment.

In these cases, it is highly unlikely that the two people will be able to have a relationship, even if it is short-term in nature.

When this card shows up, it indicates that one should be cautious regarding the existing and potential partnerships that are in one’s life. As we all know, mutual respect is key to achieving success. To do so, there must exist a willingness to compromise and find common ground. Look back at why some of your relationships were not successful… Can you find the reason why? I’ll tell you cause the answer is more simple than you think. The relationship did not work out because one of the parties did not even want the relationship in the first place. Perhaps they even preferred being alone for that was more beneficial to them than getting into relationships.

And that brings me to my final point. The 2 of Cups is not a card of conformity. Conformity does not create good relationships. In fact, it demands that we meet expectations which we are often unable to meet. One of the reasons why a vast majority of relationships fail is not because of any other reason that emotional intelligence is required to navigate a successful relationship. Understanding the needs and perspectives of others is crucial for relationship success.

When this card appears, the advice is simple: do not get into any relationship with someone who is not actually looking for a relationship. This leads me to my final and concluding point: relationships should be a source of joy in our lives. If they bring us nothing but misery, you are better off on your own till you find someone more suited to you.

Till next time!
