Oneness | My First Work of Prose-Poetry

My seventh book Oneness was my very first work of prose-poetry. What sets ONENESS apart from many other books in the genre is its refusal to be confined by religious dogma or orthodoxy. Having grown up in Singapore’s multicultural landscape, I was exposed to a multitude of faiths from an early age.

This upbringing, coupled with years spent in Christian schools and university studies in Jerusalem, allowed me to experience firsthand the richness and diversity of both Hindu and Christian traditions.

My approach goes beyond face-value tolerance. I endeavoured to embody a genuine appreciation for the beliefs and practices of others, especially when they differed greatly with one’s own. These experiences nurtured an open and inclusive perspective that is foundational to the path I explore in my work–a path where the focus is on transcendent love and unity, rather than dogma and division.

In Oneness, I sought to distill my emotions, realisations, and awakenings into their purest essence. The book, a meditation on human intimacy and the yearning for connection, ultimately points beyond the temporal to the eternal–towards the Divine Presence that underlies all existence.

By transcending orthodoxy, I found a freedom that allows the soul to mirror itself in the blank spaces of poetry, to encounter the Divine in ways that are both deeply personal and universally resonant. In the end, as Oneness gently reminds us, all that remains is the Divine-known by many names, but always present, always One.
