The Four of Swords | The Day of Rest

,

The Four of Swords reminds us that this is not the time to push forward. It is better to delay whatever it is you feel needs to be done immediately or right away. Since this is a Minor Arcana card, it is not asking you to wait for a long period of time, but just to wait a little while. We all know that rushing things cannot actually make things happen faster than they are destined to. It is better to bide your time before making this decision prematurely.

On a personal note, I’ve found that this card can often come up when someone has experienced a financial loss or a period of hardship. When the Four of Swords appears, it indicates a healing or recovery period. Just as the figure rests on the tomb, you need to allow yourself time to recover emotionally and mentally from these experiences before re-engaging with your finances. This indicates that you are in a phase where you need to pause and recuperate from recent financial stress or decisions. It’s a reminder that taking time to reflect and recharge is essential before moving forward with your financial plans.

The Four of Swords can appear to signify a transitional phase in your financial journey—moving from one stage to another. This could mean transitioning from a period of struggle to one of stability or from stability into growth. Understanding this transition allows you to prepare for what lies ahead while respecting the lessons learned from past experiences.

Honour the Sabbath

Once upon a time, the Sabbath was the Lord’s Day. It was not a day meant for pleasure, enjoyment or sense-gratification. Rather, it was a day set aside in the week to worship God and to cease, for a day, from all other activities. The word “sabbath” means “to cease,” or “to stop what you’re doing.” The fourth commandment reminds us, “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy”.

Not only are we advised to withdraw from our regular activities, we are commanded to rest. This card, then, is the card of Sabbath. Rest was one of the activities that humans were ordered to do. It was not only a suggestion, but a commandment. Anything we do on a regular basis will require us to take rest from it at some point. For instance, if you are working everyday, you will need to give yourself a day off. This is not the time to continue, but a time to REST.

In fact, it is not taking this rest that will cost you in the long run and in due course.
