The Fool Tarot | Start Again, Yet Again

The future waits for you… Or does it? I highly doubt it as time and tide waits for no man. If you think this opportunity will still be there in the future if you don’t seize it now, I’m here to remind you that this opportunity will, indeed, be gone. So either you take your chances or let it go and not cry over spilled whiskey… Or vodka… Oh sorry, the saying should have been ‘milk’. Well, regardless of the choice of beverage, when the Fool appears, it reminds us that the most foolish thing we could do is NOT seize the opportunity when it presents itself.

An opportunity will appear, seemingly out of the blue, and all you need to do is say YES. If you say NO, you may not live to regret it, but you’ll definitely kick yourself for not having seized that opportunity. The fool represents an exciting opportunity to start again, quite possibly with nothing at all whatsoever. The fool, however, is not necessarily a fresh or even a new beginning. Let me explain why.

The Fool Card represents the number zero in the Major Arcana of the tarot deck. Generally speaking, major arcana cards are more ‘powerful’ than minor arcana cards. They represent a significant phase or an archetype that is about to come into our lives. This phase or archetype will be with us for a ‘medium’ period of time. I use the word ‘medium’ because it represents a period where we will uncover some truths about ourselves as well as the people around us. When the fool appears, it reminds us that while we may think we are starting at ‘zero’, we have everything to gain and nothing lose.

The Fool is not a foolish person, despite the name of the card. He knows that he will face adversity on his journey, but still, he’s willing to forge ahead even though most others would rather stick to their old, tried-and-tested tricks. He is courageous, even in the face of danger because he is looking ahead instead of backwards. This phase represents that you’re thinking about taking a leap of faith into unknown territory. You may even be wondering if the time is right to accept an opportunity. It is normal to have doubts, but don’t overthink things right now.

JUST DO IT AND THINK LATER.

I find that since this is a Zero Card, the best way to work with it is to use it as a signifier. It has, for all intents and purposes, no energy of its own. Rather, it is an energy that needs direction. What other cards have come up with the Fool Card? Sometimes, I’ve found that the Fool card can come up when we are being told that we need to check whether or not the supporting cards support our need for adventure. It is all fair and good to take a risk and a chance, but where should we be taking that risk and chance? Is it in our personal lives, our careers, our business? Where do we direct our energy and the energy of the Fool?

Sometimes, this card can indicate that we need to return to someplace or even somewhere we’ve been before with nothing in order to try again or start over. For instance, people may return to an old home after decades away to find that everything has changed and even though they are returning somewhere, it is, for all intents and purposes, an entirely different place.

When the Fool appears, it reminds us to start again, yet again. It will, indeed, be different the next time around.
