Two of Cups | The Attraction

The 2 of Cups represents the beginning of an attraction that we simply cannot put into words. It could be to a place, to a person or even to a community. When the Two of Cups appears, the advice, while simple, may not always be easy to implement. Discover what and who you feel attracted to and explore why you feel attracted. Will the attraction last? It may. It may not. Most likely, the attraction that you are experiencing is a temporary one.

The Two of Cups is not the Three of Cups. It is not about making or having ‘friends’ and platonic relationships. It is about feeling, within and inside you, an unexplainable attraction that you simply cannot put into words. The attraction is so strong that it is a force in itself. It is standing outside a building and feeling that that’s where you want to work. It is meeting someone and feeling like you want to spend the rest of your life with them. Can you trust these feelings?

Well, give it a few months and see how you feel about it. Your feelings may, indeed, change. Hey, we know that life’s not some kind of fairytale and that these things–love at first sight and so on–only ever happen in the movies.

Attraction

The Two of Cups is a card that indicates that one is about to form a significant bond with someone else. This, however, is a ‘weak’ card. It may represent an attraction that is fleeting and that, in the end, may not amount to much. You may be very excited about the opportunity when it first comes you way, but as you get to know it better, you realise that not all is as it seems. Perhaps what you were attracted to was a mere projection and a facade.

When the Two of Cups appears, it indicates that a good outcome is guaranteed, but only if you know when and how to play the game. If you make the right move at the wrong time, it is unlikely that things will work out in the long-run. We all have stories of people and opportunities which looked so promising at the start only to have it all go kaput. Beware, beware and beware of such opportunities rearing their head when the Two of Cups shows up. If the opportunity you have seized has failed to deliver, remember that you are not obligated to stick around.

Nevertheless, the Two of Cups can represent the potential of a harmonious relationship based on shared values and respectful communication. But, as I mentioned earlier, it most likely does not. It represents a temporary relationship that will be important in the short-term, but will likely not last for the long run.

Business

When it comes to career and business, the Two of Cups can represent an upcoming client who brings money into the business. This is, in my opinion, not a card for partnerships. It usually represents a short-term commitment, perhaps a few months, but definitely nothing that extends beyond a year.

Since this is a cups card and not a pentacles card, the client that you will work with will bring some happiness into your life as well. Remember not to pick clients based on money alone. If you’re not happy working for them or doing the work that you have to do, it is unlikely that the relationship will be a harmonious one.

Be cautious not to create a relationship with someone that you are incompatible with. In some scenarios, the Two of Cups signifies argument, broken engagements and even separation. The relationship with your client did not work out because you did not uphold your end of the bargain and did not put your fair share in. It could even be the other way around; your client did not pay you or put unrealistic expectations on you. The Two of Cups, in some situations, signifies the presence of a party that neglect their end of the bargain. Do not choose to work with someone like that as they will slow down the progress that you are trying to make in your business.

Compatibility

The Two of Cups reminds us to give adequate attention to the relationships we create. We should not take ‘our people’ for granted. Whether that person is someone who is your friend, a potential significant other or someone who is working for you; remember that no one is obligated to stick around.

The Two of Cups cautions us not to become dependent on people that we cannot depend on. There should be a Me, a You and an Us. Try and recall why the Universe brought you together in the first place. Did the relationship deliver or did you–or the other party–fail to live up to your promises? If it was you, do not make the same mistake the next time. If it was the other person, I would seriously exercise caution in trusting them again.

After all, there are plenty of fish in the sea.
