The Six of Pentacles | The Giver of Crumbs

When the Six of Pentacles appears, it reminds us that whether or not others show us kindness, especially when we’re in a tough situation, is completely out of our control. They may choose to or they may not choose to. It is not a reflection of our circumstances but a reflection of the other person and their capacity for generosity.

The Six of Pentacles reminds you that you are capable of showing kindness towards others. Will the other person reciprocate? They may or they may not. They will either try to or they will not be able to. Some may not even want to. They may choose to take advantage of your generosity and you will have to learn how to manage such a relationship if it appears in your life.

Ask yourself this question when the Six of Pentacles appears: who are you showing your kindness to and why? Have you made a terrible mistake regarding where to spend your time and your resources? If so, it is not too late to set things right. At the same time, however, know that we can only rely on another person’s kindness for so long. At some point, we will have to know when to stop spending time with people who appear to be generous when for all you know, all they’re giving you are bread crumbs.

SMALL BUDGET

When the Six of Pentacles appears, it indicates that someone must work within their means and cannot go outside it. For some reason, this is all that you’ve been ‘given’ and you must make do with what you have. You may be looking at yourself and thinking ‘Poor Me’. You may not be happy at all with what you’ve received because somehow or another, it has come with strings attached. At the same time, you’ve not been given very much and you will have to figure out how to make ends meet.

We all know that sometimes, or shall I say more often than not, altruism, especially in this day and age, is just selfishness disguised as generosity. Someone is coming across as ‘the good guy’ due to their acts of charity, but how noble are they, really?

The Six of Pentacles can sometimes warn us not to accept something we do not want. Even if the person appears to be bestowing a favour upon us, they may well want something out of it. It is up to us to wisen up to the fact that the generosity of others is not free. They have turned on the tap and they can turn it off at any moment.

They have given you very little and they are, indeed, acting like they’ve given you the world. When we look at the Six of Pentacles, it is very easy to get caught up in the imagery of the rich man giving to the beggar. In my experience, though, I find this an overtly simplistic explanation. In this day and age, I feel that the interpretation of this card has gotten overtly complex. The Six of Pentacles can represent that our kindness is often limited to who we think is deserving or worthy of our kindness.

Since the Six of Pentacles is a money card, we can focus on how it only represents money; or, we can focus on what we think is worthy of our kindness. If someone has asked you to help them and you’ve refused, it is probably because you do not want to help them.

One thing I will say is that: if you’ve going to give, give generously. Do not give bread crumbs.
