The Wheel of Fortune, as an archetype, can represent either a person, a phase, an event or even a place that is destined to bring forth a significant and irreversible change into your life. When this unalterable change comes into your life, it will feel destined. You are, indeed, a small part of the ever-changing cycle of life.
I find that the Wheel of Fortune archetype can become very strong when we’re forced to face the karma that we’ve created for ourselves. That is, however, not to say that all the fortune and misfortune that we face in our lives is due to our own karma. Rather, the Wheel appears to remind us that we will always be subject to forces beyond our control.
The imagery on the card reveals to us the presence of external forces. These represent the unseen and unknowable forces that govern the Universe. These laws are not necessarily religious, even though religious leaders tend to speak of these laws. When the Wheel spins, it takes us along with it: be it for good or for evil. The Wheel of Fortune card, unlike most of the others, represents all the characters, circumstances and forces that we will have to contend with on our journey.
It comes to remind us that no man is an island… And that we are all, whether we like it or not, subject to the forces of fate.

THE FORCE
Concepts of synergy and alignment will come to the fore when the Wheel of Fortune archetype appears and becomes strong in your life. Serendipity, too, is an important factor. Are things in sync or are they out of sync? Is the wheel spinning in your favour or in someone else’s favour?
There are, indeed, forces that exist in this world which go beyond our limitations. When the Wheel of Fortune card comes, remember that we can’t control the powers of the universe. At the same time, this is nothing to fear if we can surrender to divine intervention and timing.
Change is not only certain, but guaranteed when the Wheel of Fortune appears. Be prepared for unwanted and even unwelcome situations. On the other hand, if you’ve gone through hardship, the appearance of the Wheel signifies that your hardships are about to lessen and with time, they will, indeed, completely disappear. Your situation will improve and a positive change is on the horizon.
The Wheel comes to remind us of the unpredictable nature of the Universe. Nothing in this world is set in stone. What starts out or begins as good or bad has the potential to change into its very opposite, given time. If we can embrace change, the message of this card is more positive. If change frightens us or if we choose to stick to our guns, the time has come to change our attitude and this is something that no one can do for us.
When the Wheel of Fortune appears, it encourages us to be flexible about our life and about our plans. Think creatively and take opportunities when they arise for who knows when such an opportunity may return. It’s best to make the most out of the rare opportunities which come our way; for when the Wheel spins again who knows where we might be or where we might end up.

THE VENTURE
Preparation and study is well and good, but when you don’t know for certain what is coming next, it can turn into a waste of energy. Whether you’re flying high or feel like you’re down in the dumps, this card reminds you that it’s all a temporary situation. One thing I will say is that this card advises us to remain cautious. Do not jump into anything but bide your time. Time will, indeed, reveal more and more to you.
Do not go after any opportunity. Not directly, anyway. Rather, let it come to you of its own accord. If you’ve been encountering financial challenges, this card hints at improvements on the horizon. When we find ourselves in the midst of favourable circumstances, it is crucial to fully enjoy and appreciate them, for they are not permanent. Remember what I mentioned earlier about karma? If a good opportunity comes into our life, we must make the effort to keep it in our lives (see Two of Pentacles). Do not be lazy or rest on your laurels.
When the wheel appears, risk management becomes very very important. Avoid ventures that are beyond your risk appetite. At the same time, do not stay put and take zero risks. The Wheel represents that change is inevitable. If you have found yourself in a terrible situation, the appearance of the wheel indicates that you will receive an opportunity to get yourself out of it. You must seize this opportunity.
At the same time, check in with yourself to see whether or not this is long-term decision. Assess and re-assess every opportunity to see whether or not you will be able to commit for the long haul. If we do not, the wheel will inevitably turn and we may soon find ourselves facing challenges and adversity.
When we encounter difficult situations, we can take solace in the knowledge that they too shall pass. The Wheel of Fortune assures us that better times lie ahead and we must trust in the natural ebb and flow of life. The role we play in this is what the gurus have called ‘karma’. It is up to us to play our part well no matter how big or small that part is. Do your best and make the effort to remain committed. Do not, under any circumstances, rely on luck alone. Try your best and put in the effort.
The Wheel of Fortune represents destiny, success, and going with the flow, as well as the profound understanding that life is a cycle of ups and downs beyond our control. It encourages us to embrace the lessons and experiences that come our way, knowing that the wheel will always ultimately turn, bringing new opportunities, challenges and growth.
Spin… Spin… Or dear! Don’t spin till you get dizzy!
