The Spiritual Symbolism of the Giraffe | Unexpected Appearance

The giraffe has a rather unexpected appearance. When the giraffe appears, expect the unexpected; and expect to see something (or someone) that you never even expected to see. While many animals fly under the radar for their inconspicuousness, the giraffe is not an animal that we would fail to notice, even in a large crowd.

The warm yellow, golden and brown hues on a giraffe’s coat are reminiscent of the sun’s energy and its connection to the earth. When the giraffe appears in your psyche, expect the unexpected to come into your life. At the same time, expect to stay rooted and grounded to the earth while seeing far far ahead.

The Universal Plan

Can we ever foresee the consequences of our actions? The giraffe is here to remind us that while we can see ahead, most of us can only see so far ahead. Our view is usually obscured, in some way, by not knowing exactly what is coming ahead.

Even if you can’t see what’s ahead, trust that the Divine knows what is coming and has a success plan in store for you. When the giraffe appears, the encouragement is to illuminate your inner darkness, seek spiritual growth and connect with your higher purpose. It is also time for the light to come into a situation that you were ‘in the dark’ about.

The giraffe has its head up in the clouds (or at least high up on trees). It reminds us to think highly not only of ourselves, but also of others. Have you been surrounded by people who put you down? If so, how can you find it in you to see the big picture instead of getting bogged down in the negativity that other people are projecting onto you?

In our modern world, where self-interest and self-centredness reign supreme, the giraffe reminds us that compassion and love can thrive over ‘reason’. The giraffe never forgets to show love to its peers, its friends and its young. This animal companion overflows with love, light and kindness. Is there someone in your tribe and in your community that needs your love? Why don’t you show it to them in whatever small way you can?

Wait and See

Giraffes are big time window shoppers. Will they buy? Probably not! They patiently browse for leaves as they reach for the highest branches. The giraffe’s ability to reach for the high branches represents setting ambitious goals and striving to reach your full potential.

Don’t just take the first opportunity that comes your way. Rather, look around and see what else is out there before making a decision (see Two of Wands). You may end up going back to the very first shopkeeper in the end, but you may also end up finding a much-better option that is far more suited to you.

Giraffes patiently browse for leaves, waiting for the right moment to reach their target. This signifies the importance of patience and perseverance in achieving your goals. If you’re feeling discouraged on your journey, the giraffe reminds you to stay focused on your vision, trust the process and never give up on your big dreams.

Small Start, Big Future

Remember that even the tallest tree started as a tiny seed. With consistent effort, you can reach your full potential. Since giraffes live in herds, it emphasises the value of collaboration and networking. You are not meant to do it all alone or all on your own. Build connections with colleagues, mentors and other professionals in your field and in your line of work.

The giraffe’s graceful movements are the result of careful planning and coordination. This symbolises the importance of developing strategic plans to achieve your goals. Define your desired outcomes, outline your steps and adapt your approach as needed.

On your path, there will be people and events that will try to distract you from your goals. You can see this as a criticism or you can see this as an opportunity to stay true to your beliefs and to live your life authentically. When you find the resolve to stand boldly and proudly, you will be prepared to achieve any goal.

Emotional intelligence is the art of understanding what others are going throw at you and responding accordingly. When the giraffe appears, it shows us that we should not belittle others, no matter how big and strong we may think ourselves to be. Perhaps that little seedling will one day be a big tree. Why did you call it small in the first place? Once we understand the necessity of the small, we will be able to appreciate the big.

The giraffe reminds us that even the tallest of God’s creatures start small… and end up reaching great heights.

Pun intended, indeed!
