The Page of Pentacles | The Hard Worker

,

Of all the Pages, the Page of Pentacles represents the intern or the young person who is working at their very first job. Unless you come from a business family, you probably started work in your late teens or in your early 20s. For those that did help out in the family business–whether in a small or big way–they may have started working at a much earlier age in an informal capacity.

Whenever I see the Page of Pentacles in a reading, I am tempted to think that one will have to work consistently for a very long time before one begins to see the results of their hard work. One of the truisms of life is that hard work alone is not enough to guarantee us the results that we want or need.

Sometimes, we are where we are because we were born into the right family or because we are the eldest sibling. Even if we did win the lucky draw, we must understand that others will not respect us just because we are so-and-so’s son or daughter. We will have to prove our own merit and our own worth if we want the respect of those around us.

PATIENCE

Patience is a big theme that often comes up with the Page of Pentacles. Sometimes, in life, we may want a promotion and we’ve even worked hard for it, but for some reason, we end up being demoted instead. We may be forced to take a pay cut, our boss passes us over for someone else or we discover that we are just not the favoured child in the family succession plan.

The Page of Pentacles can signal the presence of forces that are may undermine you at work. Since Pentacles are the hard-working type, they take failure more badly than other types who were expecting to coast their way through.

When the Page of Pentacles shows up, we are reminded not to expect anything back too soon or too quickly. We cannot rush the process for if we do, we often push away the very thing we are looking for. It is not so much slow-and-steady that wins the race, but rather, the one with the greatest ambition to get there.

CHILDHOOD

Unlike the Page of Swords who can be an insufferable know-it-all, there is already an element of maturity present in the Page of Pentacles. He knows what he wants and is willing to put in the time and the effort to make it happen. At the same time, however, it may be hard for this Page to outgrow the lessons and the teachings of his childhood.

He may become entrenched in outdated patterns of thinking that he may be unable to change due to his upbringing. He may always be known as someone’s son or someone’s daughter thereby never having the chance to develop their own self-identity. This may lead them to have a childish relationship with the world.

I’ve found that the Page of Pentacles, in particular, can have a much stronger relationship with their childhood than the other Pages. It is like the ghost of their family patriarch is always hanging around them, refusing to let go. Their bond is probably one that will survive death.

The Page of Pentacles must learn to embrace change if he wants to succeed in the world and stand on his own two feet. As a child, this Page was probably very clever and showed an aptitude with his financial dealings. He will face no problems in applying this approach as he grows older and has to run his own business.

I’ve found this Page archetype is quite strong even in older men, especially those who had a larger-than-life father. No matter what happens or what they achieve, they are unable to come out from the legacy of their father’s shadow. If this sounds like you–or something that you have been through–perhaps it is time to take the steps necessary to become your own person.

Put some distance between you and the family legacy if necessary. It is not unheard of for scions to strike out on their own.

CONSERVATIVE

The Page of Pentacles is less prone to daydreaming than the other Pages. He will be more practical with how he goes about doing things. He would rather take small daily steps to get to where he wants go than do nothing at all. At the same time, this Page will have to wait a long time before he can have all that he desperately wants out of life.

As he is generally not a big risk taker, he will have to step out and away from the status quo if he wants to become his own person. The conservative upbringing which protected and sheltered him during his youth can be his own undoing when he realises that the environment around him has changed. He must learn to change with the times or risk losing out on valuable opportunities.

Usually, I’ve found that these Pages will tend to surround themselves with other conservative types. They will keep the friends they had in school and will not even attempt to socialise with a new group of friends. They prefer to be close to their roots and will most likely stay there for the rest of their lives.

One of the biggest lessons for Pages, in general, is that knowing and being are two different things. In between, there is the becoming phase. What would you like to become? Who would you like to become? When it comes to the Page of Pentacles, expect what you would have expected.
