The Four of Cups | The Snooze Situation

Is it true? Do we know the solution to our most pressing problem? I don’t think so. If we did, we would do it. Very often, our lives stay in a state of stasis because we are still seeking the best possible solution and have yet to find it… or it has yet to find us.

In the meantime, we will take for granted all the blessings that are already in our life. This, in turn, prevents us from fully appreciating all the blessings and the gifts that are actually in our life.

We are just going through the motions even though we no longer feel like doing any of it. We are feeling both uninspired and unfulfilled. Due to this, we sometimes end up neglecting the blessings we do have because we are reaching for something or someone that is not even within reach.

Jealousy can be a strong theme when this card arises for we can be wistfully looking at others thinking that they have it all, when in reality, the truth is usually very far from that. They, too, probably have their struggles, their doubts and their fair share of heartache.

The truth is: you are bored and dissatisfied. You want to be ‘out there’ having adventures. You want growth and you want advancement. You realise that your progress in life has completely halted where you currently are. If you find yourself becoming preoccupied with jealousy over what others have, perhaps you need to take a long hard look in the mirror before you covet that which is not yours to have.

If someone has ever told you, “You don’t appreciate me…” Then perhaps, you will have to look into your own behaviour to see if you are taking that person for granted. One of the reasons why we cannot find the solutions that we’re looking for is because we are bored. Plain and simple. We are disillusioned. We think the grass is greener elsewhere. And let me tell you, if that is what you think, there is probably greener grass elsewhere.

Aluette deck, B. P. Grimaud, France, 1858-1890: Four of Cups

Boredom

Your general mood may decline due to the boredom you feel at work and with your general circumstances. The monotony is too much and you just cannot get the spark you once felt to reappear. This ‘problem’ appears when there is a strong sense of stagnation in your life. Yes, you may have achieved a great deal, but then, your life became stuck and you realised that you’re not going anywhere anymore.

You are pretty much destined to be ‘here’ for the rest of your life and that is not a verdict that you can accept. Nevertheless, there is a cup offering represented in this card. But will it actually be ‘better’ that the three he already has? I can tell you that the answer is no. The truth is, the man in the card is waiting for the right opportunity to come his way. But if he accepts the one that is so willingly being offered to him, he will be led down a path that is, in actuality, incorrect for him.

I feel that this card often comes up when we have lost that loving feeling. Someone, something or someplace we once loved is no longer inspiring those feelings in our heart. Perhaps we are, indeed, looking for a new lover, a new home and a new life. The passion has faded and we know that it is not returning.

If you have been in a relationship that you’re unhappy with, the Four of Cups can signify that you are ready to leave that relationship behind for one that is more fulfilling. A shift is necessary for this stuck and stagnant feeling cannot be permitted to continue. You are feeling drained and no amount of looking at the bright side of things will fix the problem.

Take the time to fully reflect before making any big changes. Do not simply take the first opportunity that comes by. Scout around and see if there are better opportunities around as well. But above all, follow your heart and pursue the life of your dreams. You will never live to regret it.
