The Seven of Swords | I Spy a Hidden Enemy

The concept of a hidden enemy appears in many cards of the tarot suit. This idea is there in all of the 7s. Yes, we need to move forward, but perhaps, we need to open to the idea that how things appear to be may not be how things actually are.

It usually takes a few months, sometimes even longer, to realise whether one should continue to pursue a path or if one should get out while they can. It is like that job interview that appeared to be the job of your dreams only for it to turn out to be a nightmare. Why didn’t you see it coming? The answer is simple. It was purposefully hidden away from you. The Seven of Swords, in particular, draws our attention to an enemy that is posing as a friend.

Despite knowing this, we know that we still have no choice but to move forward, even if the circumstances are less than ideal.

The Trickster

You have something they want. They are trying to convince you that they have something YOU want. But the truth is, they don’t have anything you want. The whole thing is a big, fat ruse! They have absolutely no intention of delivering on the promises that they have made. In fact, they’re only thinking about themselves and don’t give a hoot about you.

Are the people around you who they have presented themselves to be or is there something that has been intentionally hidden away from you? Perhaps this is all part of their PR strategy to get you in; and once you’re in, you may realise that this is not what you signed up for after all. At this point, buyer’s remorse begins to sink in.

There is only one way to combat this energy and that is not to play politics. To overcome this energy, one has to come clean about who they are, otherwise this energy will continue to persist in one’s life. In some situations, it is, indeed, possible to emerge with your secret unbroken.

But if the root of the problem is sufficiently deep and people discover the ruse and what you did–this, in turn–will only serve to humiliate and embarrass the people and persons involved. It is usually better to come clean than to allow others to discover that you did something that you shouldn’t have done. By the time they discover it for themselves, it is usually too late to run and hide.

Sometimes, the decision to confess instead of hide is the first step in allowing us to mend the trust that has been shattered. If you have done something that you are not proud of, it is much better to confess. If you have been surrounded by people who have proven to be harmful to you, it could also mean that you have chosen to ignore the warnings that you received.

The Seven of Swords can signify a number of unforeseeable predicaments coming into our life seemingly out of nowhere. Altering one’s strategy can be effective in allowing a person to create the life that they want. It is very possible that one can undergo a rebirth of their conscience when they realise the errors of their past mistakes. This does not refer to underhandedness, but rather, lessons that need to be properly learnt before they can finally move forward.

The Antidote

To quickly size up people, situations and conditions, we need to have keen observation skills. We cannot accept things and people at face value. Instead, we have to dig around before we know whether we are walking into an opportunity or a trap. If we have inadvertently walked into a trap, we must also take the steps necessary to get of it.

In some situations, the Seven of Swords can represent someone who is a bit of a detective or a researcher. They know how to discover the truth either by following the clues or by doing their research. When you need to get to the bottom of a matter where there is a lot of trickery involved, it is no easy matter to get people to confess. In fact, they will do the very opposite! They may even push the blame to someone else.

In some predicaments–especially in the ones I described above–it is better to slip in and out of situations unnoticed and to manoeuvre around obstacles that you are facing. Dealing with a trickster head on is usually a bad strategy because they usually have no incentive to come clean. This is why corporates and governments and even the little guy will go out of their way to hide something that they’ve done. It is simply not in their self-interest to come clean, even if it will clear their heavy conscience.

Another solution–especially if you are the trickster yourself–is to stop whatever you are doing before it gets out of hand. Perhaps you were overtly influenced by your peer group and due to their negative influence, you did something that you later realised that you shouldn’t have done. Once you’ve fully realised that you did something wrong, stop yourself from continuing or things will, indeed, get worse.

If you feel that there is someone in your life who is insincere, perhaps the best way forward is not to be sincere yourself. For instance, undercover agents pretend to be someone they are not in order to uncover the truth. They, too, are being honest, but they are doing it for a higher purpose. They will have to be trickier than the trickster to discover the truth!

Sometimes, we have no choice but to give a person, an institution and an organisation a taste of their own darned medicine!
