The Ordinary Person

In humility, we often find veiled within, an egoist that pretends, pretends and pretends. The ego wants to be extraordinary. That is the quest of the ego. It wants to be special. It wants to be a VIP. But the truth is: you are a nobody. You are a nobody because everybody in this world is a nobody to somebody. No matter what you do or do not do, you will always be a nobody to somebody.

Once you decide that you are just an ordinary person, you will wonder why you even tried to be a somebody. You will wonder why you even wanted to be special. You will surrender your quest to be a VIP. You will realise that whether you are a nobody or a somebody, you are equally important in the eyes of the Creator.

That is why all quests for superiority over others always and ultimately fail.

You can lead an extraordinary life by living a very ordinary life. This is possible as long as you are doing it with love, with gratitude and with the sense that there is nothing else you are meant to be doing in that very moment.

Cooking a meal, cleaning a messy room, taking a walk, sitting in the library–the most mundane matters can take on a sacred quality when they are done with your heart and with the knowledge that someone loves you.

Forget all about trying to be somebody–especially about trying to be somebody that you are not. Forget all about making headlines. Forget about dazzling people. Forget about being a star. Forget about being the next big thing. Forget that you have to be anything other than yourself to be loved. There is someone who loves you exactly as you are.

The special gift you can offer the world is your True Self. The fact that you are here as you are. The fact that you are living the life that your Creator asked you to live. The fact that you have not gone astray. The fact that you are not trying to be someone you’re not even though everyone is telling you to.

To be Oneself is not easy. To be somebody else is not easy either. That’s why all faith requires us to surrender what we call falsehoods.

That’s why I always say that I am an ordinary person. I am an ordinary person that is living the dream. And what is the dream?

For that, each day I ask Shiva. Each day he answers with the same response.

“You will not find your answers in the noise of the world. But you will find them in the silence.”
