Sagittarius is the sign of the archer. I have more Sagittarius female friends than any other sign in the zodiac. They are the great explorers: independent, fiery and tenacious. Trying to box a Sagittarius in a futile exercise. Sooner or later, they will break out and break free. And that’s exactly how I feel now that Saturn has left Sagittarius and made way for Jupiter.
Unlike Saturn Returns – which most people fear, dread and hate – Jupiter’s transits are usually welcomed like Santa Claus coming down the chimney with a whole heap of presents. Looking back now – I realise that the last time Jupiter entered Sagittarius was after my nodal return. And now, Jupiter is re-entering Sagittarius after my Saturn Return.
My first Saturn Return was a time of boundaries and blockages, of breakdowns and breakups, and of stagnation and strife. Like a harsh teacher from hell, Saturn came down on my 7th and 10th houses like a ton of bricks. Everything I had, knew and was came crashing down. There were so many days I felt like I was crawling through a dark lonely tunnel where there would be no light at the end of it all. But as I look back now – I realise that I spent those three and a half years building a foundation that’s solid, resilient and tough.
Saturn and Jupiter are the two great teachers of the zodiac. Each planet at an extreme, but each trying to fulfil the same purpose – to teach us, to mould us and to enrich our lives so that we can be the best we can be. Many astrologers see these two planets as having an ‘unfriendly’ relationship, but I disagree. They’re both damn good teachers – they’ve just got a different teaching style.
Saturn is the school principal of the cosmos. Very few people like a trip to school principal’s office. I didn’t when I was in high school and I liked it even less as I ushered in the big 30.
In the past 3 years, I feel like I’ve lost touch with that ‘watery’ side of myself. Even when I have written about the Suit of Cups, my musings have been limited to Mr. Mopey from the 5 of Cups and Mr. and Mrs. Nostalgia from the Six of Cups. Regardless of what zodiac sign you are – those are not easy life situations to deal with. And for a water sign, that energy can be particularly strong, toxic and lasting. Our feelings and emotions run far deeper than those of fire, air or earth signs.
Most people don’t enjoy being disciplined. I’m a teacher. I know. A majority of people – regardless of age – would rather be up in the clouds with the Care Bears than sit down with Planet Saturn for a royal metaphorical spanking. But yet – that is exactly what is destined for all of us when we arrive at our Saturn Return.
