Jupiter entered Sagittarius on 8th November 2018 and will stay there till 2 December 2019. I won’t lie – I was super excited when I heard that Jupiter would be entering Sag. I have Saturn in Sag and two planets in the 9th house – so to me, this sounded like good news. The last time Jupiter was in Sagittarius was in 2007. Now that I’m actually old enough, I can actually look back at these transits and wonder, “What happened back then? What came into my life? What did I accomplish?”
Unlike Saturn Returns – which most people fear, dread and hate – Jupiter’s transits are usually welcomed like Santa Claus coming down the chimney with a whole heap of presents. Looking back now – I realise that the last time Jupiter entered Sagittarius was after my nodal return. And now, Jupiter is re-entering Sagittarius after my Saturn Return.
Nodal Returns and Saturn Returns give us that much-needed necessary push so that we can release the old and welcome the new. Nodal Returns bring about a period of unexplainable great change where we face our fears and find ourselves on a different path than the one we were walking before. Saturn Returns, on the other hand, push us to work hard and then work even harder to gain the rewards. Saturn forces us to face the dull and dreadful reality of material existence; and the nodes push us to grow in ways and places we never thought we would.
In life, nothing lasts forever. We know this. But when faced with challenges that seem unsurmountable, we sometimes forget this. Struggle, pain, uncertainty and the unpleasant realities of life have a way of marking the soul. Nodal Returns and Saturn Returns are pleasant for some people, but for the vast majority of us – it’s a difficult rite of passage.
And now in comes Jupiter in Sagittarius. Unlike Saturn, the grand taskmaster, Jupiter is the planet of expansion, hope, optimism and opportunity. It’s been 12 years since Jupiter was last in Sagittarius, and it has been close to 12 years since I left home. Talk about coming full circle. The other day I sat in my office and tried to remember what came to pass in 2007. It was an eventful year, for sure. But was it the best, most prosperous, most optimistic, most beautiful year of my life?
I can’t say that 2007 brought me much happiness, but that year did open doors that had previously been shut. Looking back, it was not ‘the opportunity’ of my life, but it was the opportunity that led to many other bigger opportunities. After all, 2007 was the year I moved to Australia. I didn’t know it at the time, but I would make friends from all over the world and have a chance to travel all over the world… I even ended up changing my major – from accountancy to media communication. Had I stayed in Singapore, I don’t believe all of those opportunities would have come my way.
2007 also brought the opportunity to live and work in Israel. It would be another 2 years before that opportunity would be actualised, but the seeds were sown. If I had never gone to Israel, I never would have discovered astrology, spirituality or the whole crazy notion of moving to a country where you didn’t speak the language or know anyone.
As the ruler of Sagittarius and Pisces, Jupiter urges us to have faith… in the universe and in ourselves.
I don’t know what the next 12 years will bring, but I am excited.
Till next time – stay optimistic and know that doors will open where and when they are meant to.
It’ll all work out just fine.
